Research Questions

• How can oral histories produce a nuanced, complex and compelling qualitative accounts of climate change that stand on their own alongside and even against quantitative, objective, and empirically measurable climate change indicators?  

• What effect does globalization have on how climate change is perceived in Yucatec communities? How do the inequalities created by globalization exacerbate its effects?

• How does climate change intersect with questions of land ownership and access? How do the the multiple effects of climate change constitute and/or exacerbate “dispossession” ?

• How do changes in land quality and productivity change under conditions of climate change alter land value, and affecting the processes of the commodification of land in rural Yucatán?
